AMF Tjänstepension AB (Swedish for AMF Employment pension AB) is Swedish a pension company owned by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO).[1] AMF provides pension solutions for both individuals and companies. For occupational pensions, it offers traditional insurance and unit-linked insurance, and for premium pensions, it offers investment funds. AMF also offers fund savings options not tied to pensions.
The AMF group manages over 600 billion SEK in stocks, real estate, bonds, and alternative assets for approximately 4 million savers. This makes the company one of the largest investors on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. AMF Fastigheter AB and AMF Fonder AB are wholly-owned subsidiaries of AMF.[2]
AMF's operations are centered in two offices in Stockholm, Sweden. Approximately 460 people work for the company.[3] On January 1, 2022, AMF transitioned from a life insurance company to an occupational pension company, changing its name from AMF Pensionsförsäkring AB to AMF Tjänstepension AB.[4]
History
[edit]AMF was established in 1973 as AMF Pension to provide supplementary pensions (STP) for privately employed workers in Sweden. The company was founded through a collaboration between the Swedish Employers' Association (SAF) and the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO).[5]
In 1992, AMF Pension became an independent entity, and by 1998, it participated in Sweden's first competitive occupational pension selection process. AMF quickly became a popular choice for occupational pensions, securing a significant share of the market.
During the 2010s, AMF focused on sustainability, reporting its efforts according to GRI G4 standards and investing in renewable energy. In 2019, AMF made notable strides in digitalization by decommissioning its mainframe technology and investing in forestry and sustainable initiatives like the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance.
On January 1, 2022, AMF transitioned to an occupational pension company and rebranded as AMF Tjänstepension AB.[6] In 2021, AMF invested 200 million SEK in the Braathens Regional Airlines, acquiring a 19% stake.[7] In 2023, AMF celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking five decades since its establishment.
