Abraxas Capital Management Ltd[1] is a UK-based investment management firm specializing in digital assets and cryptocurrencies. Founded in 2002, the company has grown to become a significant player in the digital hedge fund industry, leveraging traditional finance expertise to deliver innovative investment solutions.
History
[edit]Abraxas Capital Management was established in 2002 by Fabio Frontini with the goal of creating a leading asset management boutique. The company launched its first fund with USD 10 million in assets under management (AUM) in 2003. Between 2009 and 2016, Abraxas steadily grew their AUM by managing several hedge funds focused on global macro and volatility strategies. In 2017, Carlo Zaffaroni joined the firm and played an important role in transforming the company from a traditional hedge fund firm into a specialized digital asset manager. In 2018, Abraxas launched its first digital asset fund to their offering and expanded further in subsequent years. By 2024, Abraxas's AUM had grown to over USD 2 billion.

[edit]After the launch of the first fund in 2003, Abraxas futher expanded between 2009 and 2013 with the creation of multiple global macro and volatility funds. In 2018, the company's entry into the digital asset space was marked by the launch of the Elysium Global Arbitrage Fund[2][3], a significant milestone that paved the way for its current focus on digital asset management.
Current
[edit]Abraxas currently manages several market-neutral and directional digital assets funds under the Elysium brand. These include the Elysium Global Arbitrage fund[4], their multiple award-winner[5] market-neutral strategy, and the Elysium Alpha funds, focused on outperforming crypto assets like Bitcoin or Ethereum. The firm employs various investment strategies, including arbitrages, high-frequency trading, crypto derivatives and DeFi strategies.
