The story of Eau Thermale Avène began 30 years ago with the reopening of the Avène Hydrotherapy Center and the creation of the Eau Thermale Avène brand (1990). The origins can be traced back to a visionary pharmacist-entrepreneur, Pierre Fabre, who discovered the Avène thermal springs and recognized the unique properties of Avène Thermal Spring Water. The water's exceptional virtues were declared of public interest by the National Academy of Medicine in 1874.

1736: the horse of the Marquis de Rocozels, suffering from a skin condition, sees its itching soothed upon contact with the thermal spring water of Avène.

1743: The first thermal pool is constructed at the request of the Marquis de Rocozels.

1772: The Montpellier Academy of Medicine recognizes the therapeutic properties of Avène thermal spring water.

1871: The effectiveness of Avène Thermal Spring Water is sent to relieve the severely burned victims of the Chicago fire. 1874: The Source is declared of public interest by Marshal Mac Mahon, President of the Republic.

1976: The first products based on Avène thermal spring water and dedicated to redness are launched within the Galénic brand.

1990: The prevalence of sensitive skin worldwide increases and becomes a growing dermatological concern.

Reopening of the Avène Thermal Center and creation of the Eau Thermale Avène brand. Products are manufactured on-site to preserve the properties of Avène thermal spring water, from the source to the skin.

A complete range of skincare products dedicated to sensitive skin is created: Thermal Spring Water Spray, facial care for intolerant skin, body care, cold cream care, sun care, and corrective makeup.

1996: Avène Thermal Spring Water launches Tolérance Extrême and creates D.E.F.I., a hermetic packaging system that preserves sterile formulas intact.

Cicalfate is created, which later becomes the most prescribed product by doctors and dermatologists.

2001: The Avène Thermal Station is the first dermatological thermal establishment to obtain the Aquacert HACCP Thermalisme® certificate.

2012-2016: The surface area of the Avène Production Unit increases by 25%, while its CO2 emissions per ton of products manufactured are reduced by 52%.

2013: Development of I-modulia®, the first biotechnological postbiotic active ingredient derived from Avène thermal spring water with anti-itching effects to relieve skin prone to atopic eczema.

Birth of the XeraCalm A.D. range.

2017: The production unit is certified ISO 14001 for its environmental management approach. 100% of electricity consumption comes from renewable energy sources, with no direct CO2 emissions.

2019: More than 620 women benefit from L'Échappée rose, a moment of gentleness, relaxation, and soothing offered to hospitalized women and their loved ones.

Cleanance COMEDOMED, a revolutionary care product for acne-prone skin, and [C+-Restore]™, a new postbiotic repairing active ingredient in the Cicalfate+ range, are introduced. Several studies demonstrate the harmlessness of Avène's filtering system on coral, phytoplankton, and zooplankton, for a respected marine biodiversity.

2020: 30 years of innovation dedicated to sensitive, intolerant, and allergic skin. Expertise based on more than 150 fundamental and clinical studies on Avène thermal spring water, recognized by the world's leading scientific and dermatological experts.

Since 2013: The Eau Thermale Avène Sun Care products are developed according to a very strict formulation charter to offer the best in sun protection while minimizing their environmental impact.
