Draft:Battalion 101 (Israel)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Battalion 101 is a unit in the IDF Paratroopers Brigade. Also known as the "Peten" Battalion, it was established in its current form in 1990. Before its establishment as Battalion 50, it was called "Battalion 88" and was commonly referred to as "The Airborne Nahal Battalion", due to the fact that service in the battalion was part of the Nahal Brigade, and its troops were members of Nahal's core units. In the Paratroopers Brigade, a new battalion was established called "Battalion 101". Battalion 101 is notably viewed as a direct successor of the historic special forces Unit 101. Battalion 50 and its successor, Battalion 101 (starting in 1990) fought in all of Israel's wars since the reprisal operations.[1]

Among other unique traits, Battalion 101 is known for being the original service unit of a vastly disproportionate number of the IDF's Chiefs of Staff, such as
