The Seven Labors of Esfandiyar(Persian: هفت خان اسفندیار, romanized: Haftkhān-e-Esfandiyar) is an epic consisting of seven acts carried out by the Iranian Hero, Esfandiyar. This story is retold in the Persian epic Shahnameh written by Ferdowsi. In this epic, Esfandyar seeks to free his sisters Homay and Behafarid from captivity abroad, and in doing so must pass seven trials.
Background
[edit]Before his death, Kay Khosrow elects Kay Lohrasb as his successor to the Persian throne. Lohrasb rules the nation into an era of peace and prosperity, until his son Goshtasb seeks Asylum in the Roman court and marries the Roman princess Katāyoun in spite.
