Gilles Marcotte, born in Sherbrooke on December 8, 1925, died in Montreal on October 20, 2015, is a writer, professor in the Department of French Studies at the University of Montreal, literary and musical critic, and Quebec journalist.

His work on Quebec and French literature has earned him international recognition. Gilles Marcotte won the Governor General's Award for French-language non-fiction in 1962 for his book "Une littérature qui se fait".
