Grimalkin Records is a 501(c)(3) organization (nonprofit), and as part of the services they provide towards achieving their mission, they also release music as an independent record label. They are based in Richmond, Virginia, and Carsley, Virginia and support artists all over the world with priority to Trans, Queer, LGBTQ, BIPOC, Neurodiverse, and Disabled artists. Grimalkin is a grassroots organization that goes beyond music representation, with education, mentorship, and community outreach.
History
Originally called Friends For Equality in 2015, Founder Nancy Grim Kells, (artist name Spartan Jet-Plex) organized local benefit shows in Richmond, Virginia. With (Eli)zabeth Owens' album Coming of Age as their first physical release in 2018, they formally adopted the moniker Grimalkin Records and began raising money for the Virginia Anti-Violence Project.
