Henry Berkowitz was a Russian-English educator and civic leader in 19th-century England. Born in Warsaw, he moved to London in 1841, where he initially worked under the patronage of Chief Rabbi N. M. Adler. Berkowitz’s dedication to education led him to Gravesend, where he established the Hebraical, Classical and Commercial Academy in 1849, offering a wide-ranging curriculum for the Jewish community.
