The IBM 003 Was an Lever Set Gang Punch, One of IBM's First products, It was superior due to the ability of punching out several cards at a time. It was utilized to punch holes into Punchcards, And was developed by the Computing-Tabulating-Recording-Company[1], The CTR During it's early days
It could have also been used in the 1920 census, but evidence is lacking.
It also sped up the processing of information by allowing multiple inputs, as stated above.
