"Imgonnagetyouback" (stylized in all lowercase) is a song by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift taken from the expanded double album version of The Tortured Poets Department (2024) subtitled The Anthology. Written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff, "Imgonnagetyouback" is an ethereal synth-pop song that plays with the double meaning of wanting to get revenge on a past lover while also wanting to rekindle the relationship. Many critics drew parallels between the song and Olivia Rodrigo's 2023 single "Get Him Back!", noting that both songs use similar wordplay. The song peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Global 200 and charted in the top 40 in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. Swift performed the song live for the first time during the second Amsterdam show of the Eras Tour (2023–24) on July 5, 2024 as a mashup with "Dress" (2017).
Background
[edit]Taylor Swift announced her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department (2024), at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024 during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album.[1] Swift revealed that she had been working on the album for over two years, since the completion of Midnights (2022), and had continued working on it through the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour in 2023.[2] The standard edition of the album was released on April 19, 2024, and two hours after release, Swift announced on her Instagram that The Tortured Poets Department was "a secret double album", releasing an expanded version of the album subtitled The Anthology with 15 additional songs.[3] "Imgonnagetyouback" was revealed as track 18 on The Anthology version of the album.[4] Swift performed the song live for the first time during the acoustic set of the Eras Tour on July 5, 2024 in Amsterdam as a mashup with "Dress", and then again on July 28, 2024 in Munich as a mashup with "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" (2016).[5]
