John Sands is a pianist and researcher in to British music of the Victorian and Edwardian eras 1837-1910. He was born in Oldham, Lancashire, on 9th December 1969 and is active in research and publishing. He has written articles for the Sit Arthur Sullivan Society and the British Music Society besides actively promoting recordings of Victorian and Edwardian British music.

Chief areas of interest include the following composers: Michael William Balfe, Edward Loder, Henry Hugo Pierson, George Alexander Macfarren, William Sterndale Bennett, Arthur Sullivan, William Vincent Wallace, Hamish MacCunn, Alexander Campbell Mackenzie, Henry Gadsby, Thomas Wingham, Edward German, Granville Bantock, Joseph Holbrooke, Cyril Scott, Rutland Boughton, Alfred Cellier, Francois Cellier, Frederic Clay, Frederic Hymen Cowen, Frederic Cliffe, Frederick Corder, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Frederic d'Erlanger, Franz Schreker, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alexander Zemlinsky, Arthur Somervell, Charles Villiers Stanford, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, John Francis Barnett, Walter Macfarren, Cyril Bradley Rootham, Alexnder Maclean, Malcolm Arnold, Malcolm Williamson, and George Dyson.

Now resident in Nottingham, John continues to write about and collect a large number of vocal scores, piano scores and full orchestral scores relating to his interests.

He donates to several charities including Age UK, ADHD UK, The British Red Cross, Oxfam and the Worshipful Company of Musicians. He remains single and recently lost his nephew whom he had lived with for eight years, Paul Beardsley (14th December 1979 - 7th March 2024).
