Hans Jonas Liveröd, born 22 October 1974 in Kristinehamn, is a Swedish artist who lives and works in Ågårdskvarn in Götene, Sweden.[1] Liveröd runs the culturally interdisciplinary organisation Luftslottet[2] that includes his own museum of the extraordinary – The Liveröd Wunderkammer (LWK)[3] and the Vanitas Pavilion.[4] Luftslottet and its two collections are dedicated to outsider art, altered states, subcultures, death and funeral culture and all things un-categorisable.
Biography
[edit]Jonas Liveröd[5] studied at the Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten (now called ArtEZ Art & Design) in Enschede, the Netherlands between 1995-1999. His artistic practice comprises sculpture, drawing and installation, but also collage, ceramics and textiles. He regularly exhibits in museums, galleries and other venues internationally but also ventures in to many other areas like collecting and curating shows. Liveröd was artist in residence at Centre Culture Suedois in Paris and released several books.
In 2023, LL'Editions published Liveröd's comprehensive monograph Grand Assembly - An Encyclopedic Inventory.[6] The book, with texts by the artist himself, Bengt af Klintberg and Amila Pusić, summarises Liveröd's multifaceted oeuvre and also contains a lexicon that provides a deeper insight into the artist's world of thought. Among others, Liveröd curated the show I had the strangest dream[7] for Kristinehamns Museum of Art[8] as well as putting on his own exhibitions at the Värmlands Museum[9] and Bror Hjorths hus.[10] He has also produced a number of public artworks in various places in Sweden in the past years. Liveröd has received a large number of prizes and grants, including the Swedish Arts Grants Committee's five-year working grant, the Aase & Richard Björklund Fund, the Lengertz Art Prize and the Gunnar & Lily Persson Grant.
"Jonas Liveröd's artistry is characterized by an unrestrained energy, a place where everything from ancient to contemporary myths and rites crashes and mixes in a violent discharge. His method is mainly focused on drawing, sculpture and installation, but embraces a number of expressions with a large mixture of materials and interdisciplinary excesses, where he also works with text, curatorial activities or what may cross his path."[11]
