Kathleen M. Amm is an American physicist who is the director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born September 15, 1971, in Boston, Massachusetts.[1]
Education
[edit]After attending the University of Toronto, Amm received her undergraduate degree with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics in 1993 from the University of Toronto.[1] She received her Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Florida State University in 1998 with the National Magnet Lab’s founding director, Jack Crow, as one of her advisors.[2]
Career
[edit]Amm started her career as a physicist in the electromagnetic and superconductivity lab at GE Global Research. Throughout her 20-year tenure with the company, she led groups in the Electromagnetics and Superconductivity Lab and the MRI Technologies and Systems Lab. She later directed the Magnet Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). In May 2024, she joined the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory as director. She oversees facilities at Florida State University, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the University of Florida. Kathleen has contributed to over 75 publications and 22 patents throughout her career.[3]
