DEVIL INSIDE US

by Medul Hossain Masum

Life is short on memories. Some of us live life by making memories, and some of us work hard to have good memories in the future. We suffer, we learn, and we apply. We are born to do three things in life: learn, suffer, or succeed. There is no correct way to live your life. Your choices shape your way of life. There is no good or bad eventually. We make rules or disciplines because these put everyone on the same page.

We have a strange instinct which they call the heart, and I call the devil inside us. This makes you feel something, lets you overthink things that are easier to decide upon, and impacts our decision-making. As they describe the devil, this is the devil that stops you from making better decisions. Whether good or bad, we have a brain to think through the consequences.

Then there is another level of feeling which they call love. Love is one of the obstacles in our life that prevents you from thinking at the level you should. Love is a language where you get hurt by another person's behavior. That's strange—it brings an obstacle called pain. I am sure this heart is the devil, and stages like love, feeling, and overthinking stop you from becoming a better person. Just imagine, a person without these obstacles could be unstoppable.

I know you might be thinking, "This guy does drugs." Trust me, I never did drugs. If there were a drug that could make you fly for real, I would die to try it. But drugs are an illusion. I stopped smoking when I realized it's nothing but a fire that burns your body parts. So, back to the devil inside us. Guess what? I talk to my devil—I mean, my heart. It's a confused mess. But my brain is stronger than my heart. I feel like a part of me is talking to me. I talk to myself. We judge people by how typical they are. My devil once loved someone, and guess what? My devil got hurt. My brain knows what it was, but this bullshit devil didn't know what it was. He is still confused. It doesn't bother me. You know why? I know it's a process of life that makes you human. Unfortunately, I am a human. I don't brag about it. I know I am weak like you guys. We are always up for something, always chasing things.

For example, we are chasing outer space to see if there is someone or not in the universe besides us. See, this makes us weaker. If there is other intelligence in outer space, they are not trying to find us, right? You know why? Because they don't have the devil like us. They are not very human. There is a term called happiness that makes us feel something. Some of us are trying to find happiness in something. When I was young, my happiness was going home and playing with toys. I used to look at the elders and think, "Wow, they can manage their desired things." When I got older, I realized you are nothing but worse. You know many things in this world, this cruel world, which is always selfish.
