Matthew L. Gannon is an American lawyer who is the nominee to serve as the United States attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.

Education[edit]

Gannon earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1998.[1]

Career[edit]

From 1998 to 2007, Gannon worked in private practice as an associate with Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. From 2007 to 2021, he served in the Iowa Attorney General's Office as an assistant attorney general where he led the Office's Tobacco Enforcement Program. From 2021 to 2023, he served as first assistant attorney general in the Iowa Attorney General's Office.[1]

Nomination as U.S. attorney[edit]

On February 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Gannon to be the United States attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.[1] On February 27, 2024, his nomination was sent to the United States Senate.[2] On April 18, 2024, his nomination was favorably reported out of the Senate Judiciary Committee by a 16–5 vote.[3] His nomination is pending before the United States Senate.
