National Union Republican was an offshoot of the Republican Party during the Reconstruction era. They party's 1868 platform opposed Andrew Johnson, supported civil rights and voting rights for African Americans in southern states and left it up to northern states to decide suffrage issues, supported the restoration of voting rights for Confederate veterans, and supported a liberal and just immigration policy.[1] 1872[2]
