Pavlos Xioutas (Greek: Παύλος Ξιούτας) (Kato Paphos, 1908 - Limassol, 2 July 1991) was a Cypriot educator, poet and folklorist.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]He graduated first from the Limassol Primary school,[2] and then attended the Limassol Gymnasium (now Laniteio Lyceum).[1] He studied philology at the University of Athens.[3]
Career
[edit]He was a schoolteacher in Cypriot middle schools.[3]
Personal life
[edit]He has a daughter Nelly Papasavva, who has inherited the archive of her father.[4]
Legacy
[edit]In 1983 the Academy of Athens presented him with an award for his book titled Cypriot Folklore of Animals (Κυπριακή Λαογραφία των Ζώων). A bust of Xioutas was unveiled in 28 June 1994 at the Pavlos Xioutas park in Engomi.[5] In 2015 he was commemorated by a stamp from the Cyprus post.[6]
