Power for All Alliance

[edit]

Power for All Alliance (proper spelling POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE) is a cross-brand battery platform from Bosch Power Tools. It is based on the 18V batteries of the “green” DIY products, although the platform has been open to other manufacturers since 2020.

History

[edit]

In 2020, Robert Bosch Power Tools GmbH and Gardena founded the “Power for All Alliance” as a cross-manufacturer battery alliance with the aim of designing a standardized battery for applications around the home[1]. This alliance is based on the battery technology from Bosch Home & Garden. In addition to Bosch and Gardena, the alliance initially included BSH (cordless vacuum cleaners), Gloria (outdoor cleaning equipment), Wagner (painting/spraying equipment), Rapid (tools and workshop equipment), Steinel (tools) and Flymo (garden tools), whose 18V appliances can be used with the 18V Power-for-All battery since the changeover[2].

In 2022, Husqvarna[3], Kübler Workwear[4] and PerfectPro[5] joined the Alliance. Since then, in addition to power tools and garden tools, radios and heatable clothing have also been represented. In mid-2023, Ledvance announced its participation in the Power for All Alliance, which means that the alliance now consists of 12 partners and 11 brands[6].

According to the Power for All Alliance, there are over 30 million 18V batteries on the market, which have been compatible with over 100 18V appliances from the green product range from Bosch and its partners since 2023.[7]

Battery Technology

[edit]

The Power for All Alliance is based on the 18-volt lithium-ion battery system from Bosch. The capacity of the batteries ranges from 1.5 to 6 ampere hours. With a few exceptions, all 18V appliances from Bosch Home & Garden and the products of partners who have already switched to the Power for All system are cross-compatible with all batteries and chargers since the first Bosch battery generation in 2007[8].
