Origin of the Club
During the Winter of 1889-90 the idea of holding a friendly golf match between players of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh occurred to certain of the Fellows. The plan was warmly taken up, and ti was arranged to hold the match on Gullane Links on 26th March 1890. It was thereafter agreed that the match should be by holes, and should be played by teams from each College.
This match was played on the date mentioned, and was won by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh by 20 holes.
The Colleges were represented in the first match by the following players:-
