Sa'idu Muhammad Gusau, born on March 24, 1952, in the Madawaki Zone near the Juma Mosque in the Bube Attajiri area of Gusau, Zamfara State, is a prominent Nigerian academic and scholar.[1][2]

Early Education and Academic Background

Gusau began his early education under the tutelage of his father, Malam Muhammadu Dankullum, and other scholars, including Malam Husaini Kanoma and Malam Labbo Haruna Gummi. By the age of fourteen, he had completed the recitation of the Holy Qur'an. He continued his education at the Nizamiyya Islamic School, under the guidance of Malam Attahiru Dangaladiman Waziri, from 1965 until December 1969.[3]

In January 1970, Gusau enrolled at Sultan Abubakar College in Sokoto, where he studied Arabic and Islamic Studies, completing his education there in June 1973. He furthered his studies at Abdullahi Bayero College, Kano, where he obtained a Diploma in Hausa, Arabic, and Islamic Studies in June 1977. Subsequently, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Combined Honors at Bayero University Kano, graduating in June 1980. He continued at the same institution to earn a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Hausa in October 1983 and completed his Ph.D. in Hausa in May 1989 in the Department of Nigerian Languages.

Career

He began his teaching career at the Talatar Mafara Township Primary School, where he served from September 1973 to September 1974. He later taught at the UPE Wasugu Teacher Training School in 1977 and the Arabic Academy (SAS) from August 1980 to July 1981. He held the position of Vice President at GTC Zuru Teacher Training School from 1981 to September 1982 and was the Head of the Hausa Department at ATC Maru from 1984 to September 1985.

In June 1990, Professor Gusau joined the Department of Nigerian Languages at Bayero University Kano as a Lecturer. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1991, became an Associate Professor in 1995, and attained the rank of Professor on October 1, 2000.[4]

Contributions and Publications

Throughout his academic career, Professor Gusau has made significant contributions to the study of Hausa language and Islamic religion. He has authored numerous articles and books on these subjects and actively participated in various conferences, presenting papers and raising awareness on related topics.[5]

Personal Life

Gusau currently resides in Kano with his family, including his wife, children, and grandchildren.[3]
