Draft:September 2024 Tirupati Laddu Controversy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On September 18, 2024 Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu sparked controversy by alleging that animal fat was used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, a popular offering at the Tirumala temple.[1] He said those remarks in Vijayawada to celebrate the 100 days of the NDA regime in the State.

A lab report dated July 16, 2024, tested samples collected on July 9, suggesting the presence of these animal fats, found “beef tallow”, “lard” and “fish oil”. The analysis was conducted by the Centre for Analysis and Learning in Livestock & Food (CALF) at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Anand, Gujarat.[2][3]

TTD executive officer J Shyamala Rao announced that lab tests had found adulterated ghee from AR Dairy. The firm has been blacklisted and legal proceedings have been initiated.[4] The firm has refuted the charges. The Tamil Nadu-based AR Dairy said their product samples have been duly cleared by authorities certifying its quality.
