Steger & Sons, was an American manufacture of pianos from the late 19th century into the mid 20th century.
Founded by John Valentine Steger in 1879, the company became one of the leading mid-west piano makers through the early turn of the century. Going bankrupt in the 1950s.
History
[edit]John Valentine Steger was born in Ulm, Germany, in 1854. He apprenticed as a cabinet maker under his father, before immigrating to the United States, in 1871. He found work at a brass foundry, Chicago, saving up enough to form a partnership with a piano tuner to open a piano store.
