Battle of Mišar

Vreta Kolarac (Serbian Cyrillic: Врета Коларац (North Macedonia, c. 1875 - Karađorđe's Serbia, after 1811 little is know) was a voivode in Karađorđe's Serbia. After the failed Karađorđe insurrection, there is no documentary evidence of where and how Vreta Kolarac died.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Vreta Kolarac was an ethnic Cincar who came and settled in Kolari long before the first Serbian insurrection from Macedonia (his native place is not exactly known)[2]. He held the Turkish rank of Binbashi or major in the army of Smederevo, and there voivode Vule Ilić Kolarac made him the administrator (upravitelj) of Smederevo[3]. Vetra was conspicuous for his bravery as a volunteer and very early on he was appointed voivode by Karađorđe. He fought at the battles of Mišar, Belgrade, and Deligrad. He distinguished himself especially in Mačva in 1806.
