The following is a list of weather events that occurred on Earth in the year 1873. The several weather events which had a significant impact were blizzards, cold waves, droughts, heat waves, wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and tropical cyclones. Events across Europe are documented by the European Severe Storms Laboratory as well as other organizations.^[1] Events across the North America, particularly the United States are officially documented by the United States Weather Bureau, which at the time was part of the United States Department of War.

Deadliest events

January 1 – Large hail occurred in Buchkirchen, Austria-Hungary (modern day Austria).^[1]^[2]
April 26 – A waterspout occurred off the coast of Cubelles, Spain.^[1]^[3]
May 30 – A tornado damaged properties, crops, and forests near Kotliska, German Empire (modern day Poland).^[1]
June 23 – A hailstorm occurs in Plasne, France, which produced hail “as big as nuts”.^[1]^[4]
June 29 – A strong tornado caused F2 damage to houses in Opava, Austria-Hungary (modern day Czech Republic).^[1] Four hours later, another strong F2 tornado struck Prater, Austria, causing damage at the 1873 Vienna World's Fair. The European Severe Storms Laboratory also documented that large hail accompanied the tornado, which “battered chickens to death”.^[1] On the same day, large hail occurred across France, with some hailstones being reported with a diameter of 4 cm (1.6 in).^[1]
July 1 – A lightning strike in Zvičina, Austria-Hungary (modern day Czech Republic) started a fire which damaged buildings.^[1]^[5]
