The EHL Wolves are a non-professional Ice Hockey team based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ice hockey is quite a popular sport in Switzerland, which is equally reflected at the École hôtelière de Lausanne. The 'EHL Wolves' name of the club was coined in 2010, although the team existed as the 'Ice Hockey Committee' since 2005.
History
Since its inception in 2005, the EHL wolves have won numerous accolades. In 2010, they won the championship of "Ligue Lausannoise de hockey-sur-glace". A high level of training during the 2011-2012 season led to a season with no losses.
2005: The creation of the EHL Ice Hockey Committee. Mr. Rodrigue Benoit, a chef at EHL and former European Hockey League player along with Mr. Chris Norton, former EHL Marketing Director and NHL player, and of course the support of students and members of the faculty alike formed the club.
2010: The 1st time Champions. The 2009-2010 season was an incredible feat that the team achieved by having a more competitive structure with new players at school, out of whom a few being from the Junior Elite League in Switzerland. EHL defeated the University of Lausanne (UNIL) in a thrilling final to become Champions for the first time in EHL Wolves history.
2010-2011: New name, logo and jerseys. The beginning of the 2010-2011 season was marked by the development of the committee with a new logo and a new name: the Wolves. Following the successful previous season, the Wolves found new sponsors to grow their funds and invest in training and material simultaneously.
2011: The beginning of the merchandising. During Summer 2011, the EHL Wolves Committee launched a new marketing strategy by implementing merchandising with EHL New Era Caps, EHL Wolves Scarves and EHL Wolves Stickers. In the same time, the EHL Cheerleading Committee partnered with the Wolves.
2012: Champions Again. Having finished the previous season as runners up, just behind Montchoisi but ahead of the University of Lausanne, the Wolves won the title.
2013: Introduction of the new blue team jerseys. The team sustained major roster changes and did therefore fall in the rankings.
2014: Arnaud Barbezat takes over captaincy. Still undergoing roster changes, the EHL Wolves dropped further in the rankings.
2015: New stars Tim Zangger and Patrick Lilius are added to the roster.
2016: The captaincy passes to Tim Zangger. The team introduces new Instagram & Snapchat accounts and tries to attract a larger crowd to the games, bringing them to win very important games against the Police Lausannoise and the EPFL teams. Goalie Etienne Laurent sustained a season ending injury just after 3 games and was replaced by rookie goalie Lorenzo Pellegrini for the remainder of the season.
2017: The captaincy passes to Marco Rosso. He will be assisted through the season by Pascal Vilhelmsson, Lorenzo Pellegrini and former captain Tim Zangger. The team has good potential given his presence, the one of finnish star Patrick Lilius and newest addition to the roster Daniel Murphy. The Wolves start their campaign with a 4-2-0 and lead the Ligue Lausannoise after 6 games. On November 3rd 2017, the EHL Wolves win against the champions of last two editions of the League HC Monchoisi with a score of 6-3.
Team colors
The Wolves logo is a gray wolf (canis lupus), wild member of the Canidae family. It represents the noble and strong esprit de corps among each individual of the club. This is derived from the reputation of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, being renowned as one of the oldest and best hospitality management school in the world.[1]
Home uniform sweaters are predominantly blue in colour. Away uniform sweaters are predominantly white.
