Edward John Barber (born July 15, 2000 in Heidelberg, Germany), better known as Edward Barber, is a German-Filipino actor, model, product endorser. He's dubbed as the Cheerful Charmer of Germany and became the fourth Big Placer of the reality show, Pinoy Big Brother - Lucky Season 7.
Personal life
He was born and raised in Germany by his Filipina mother and British-German father. He has a sister, Laura, who currently attends a University in the United Kingdom. He's dubbed as the Cheerful Charmer of Germany because of his cheerful personality. [1]
Career
Before his rise to stardom, Edward was just an ordinary teenager with ordinary everyday problems. When he was approached by an ABS-CBN staff member in Germany, he decided to audition for Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky Season 7, to get a chance to meet his celebrity crush in the Philippines, Liza Soberano. He got accepted, and was the second teen housemate that was introduced right after his eventual loveteam partner, Maymay Entrata and eventually became part of the Dream Team. He was dubbed as the "Cheerful Charmer ng Germany" because of his cheerful personality that surely won the hearts of many. Inside the house, Edward exemplified leadership and maturity that's expected from men way beyond his age. Throughout the Dream Team, Edward maintained his "never nominated" status and it was further sealed when he became part of the Dream Team's Lucky 7 Housemates that would go on to the Finale Night. In one of the tasks, The award-winning director Rory B. Quintos was so impressed with Edward's acting that she referred to him as "The Next Big Superstar." At the Big Night, he was announced as the season's 4th Big Placer.[1]
On September 2017, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, popularly known with their loveteam "Mayward", played the lead roles for their debut film, Loving In Tandem that was released September 13, 2017 nationwide.[2] Right after, he got a cameo role in the box office hit film Seven Sundays.
On October 15, 2017, he was recognized as Push Personality Newcomer during the awarding ceremony of PUSH AWARDS, an annual digital media event of ABSCBN held at the ASAP Chillout. The tandem of Edward and Maymay Entrata, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakout win as the Push Group/Tandem. Their fans, the MayWards, also captured the Ultimate Fan Award for posting the highest number of tweets among all fan clubs during the seven-week voting period.[3]
He joined Maymay to make a teleserye debut on the highly-anticipated horror-action fantasy drama television series, “La Luna Sangre” topbilled by Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.[4]
Maymay and Edward have made their own successful Out-of-the-Country concerts in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong and were also part of Star Magic Grand Celebration in Singapore together with KathNiel, Piolo Pascual, Maja Salvador and many others.
On February 23, during Maymay’s first soldout solo concert, Edward showed everyone his skills on rap as he was so cool rapping while performing I’ll Find You by Lecrae with Maymay. The crown went wild and crazy as they performed their hit song Baliw and showered kilig and sweetness on their IKAW lyrical dance performance.[5] A week after, MayWard were announced to be performing at 4th Impact Rise Up Concert at Sky Dome on March 23.
Last July 22, 2018, the pilot episode of their first topbilled Wansapanataym series "Ikaw ang Ghosto ko" was aired garnering the ratings with 26% vs 17.4% of the rival show. Maymay played the role of "Espie" while Edward Barber played the role of "Vincent". [6]
Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber will soon Topbill their First Teleserye "Honey My Love So Sweet" under Dream Scape Production on ABS-CBN. Pokwang, Cherrie Pie, McCoy DeLeon, Joey Marquez and many others will join them on the said teleserye. [7]
Philanthropy
ELM Tree Foundation, a charity organization founded by Edward Barber, Laura Barber, and Maymay Entrata, was formally launched last December 19, 2017.[8]
Endorsement
Fresh from Pinoy Big Brother house, he together with on-screen partner Maymay Entrata joined McDonald’s family as the newest endorsers of the new Creamy McFreeze.[9] They also became one of the newest endorsers for Bench (Philippine clothing brand).[10] MayWard joined the launching of Ariel Philippines’ new product, the NEW Ariel with Downy Perfume last May 18, 2017 with the #ArielWhatAFeeling trending nationwide.[11] On March 2018, Edward, together with Maymay, bagged another endorsement deal with Vivo (technology company) Philippines. Edward together with Maymay Entrata became the Celebrity Ambassador of Tik Tok (app) Philippines (A Global video community). On June 2018 Edward Barber is one of the newest ambassador of Coca-Cola.
