Evermore is a fantasy novel by Alyson Noel released in 2009. It is the first novel in the Immortals series.[1] Evermore was an immediate bestseller and, as of August 11, 2009, had spent 25 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers list for children's books.[2]

Plot

After a horrible accident claims the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see people's auras, hear their thoughts, and know someone's entire life story by touching them. Going out of her way to avoid human contact and suppress her abilities, she has been branded a freak at her new high school, but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.

Damen is beautiful, exotic, and wealthy. He's the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her head - wielding a magic so intense, it's as though he can peer straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she's left with more questions than answers. And she has no idea just who he really is - or what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is that she's falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.

Characters

Ever Bloom: Sixteen year old Ever was a cheerleader, extremely popular and known for her pretty blonde hair and good looks. But that was before an accident claimed the lives of her parents, sister, and dog - and left her with a scar on her forehead and psychic powers. She can see the color of people's auras (colorful light emitting from humans), read their thoughts and know their life at touch, and loves to talk to her dead sister's ghost. Now a freak, Ever is ignored and doesn't mind, but when she meets a sexy guy named Damen, things begin to change. There is more to Damen than it appears or doesn't appear, for Ever cannot read his thoughts, see his aura or know his life. This leaves Ever shocked, because the only people whose auras she cannot see, or lives she cannot read... are already dead...

Damen Auguste: Damen Auguste is an Immortal, the first one to ever exist. His father made the elixir to everlasting life and told him the recipe. He fell in love with Ever when he first met her, after he and his wife separated. Life after life, Ever's reincarnations were killed in "accidents". He always began to lose hope before Ever appeared in his life again. Damen has access to Summerland, a place where dead souls that did not cross over stay.

Sabine Sabine is Ever's aunt who Ever ended up staying with after her family died. All though Ever is thankful for Sabine taking her in she often feels like she took away Sabine's freedom.

Riley Bloom: Riley Bloom is Ever's little sister, who died when their father swerved to miss hitting a deer, but hit a tree instead. She visited Ever everyday and when she wasn't with Ever, she spied on Ever's old friends and the celebrities. Ever convinced Riley to go into Damen's house and tell her what's there. There was a locked door that Riley didn't want to go though, even though she didn't care for locked doors before. After the Halloween party their aunt, Sabine, threw, Riley began wearing costumes everyday, including copying what Ever wore until she gave that up and dressed like herself. The party psychic, Ava, finally convinced Riley to cross over and she promised to give Riley a sign to let her big sister know she was safe when she crossed over.

Drina Auguste: Drina Auguste was Damen's wife and one of the first Immortals. She is highly ruthless and has always believed that she is superior to others. She is madly in love with Damen and will stop at nothing to get him back. She has been killing Ever's reincarnations one after the other in a sadistic way. Drina hopes that Damen will see that he loves her, not Ever, and that humans don't deserve his compassion. She is killed by Ever during their second fight in her kitchen.

Ava: Ava is a psychic far less powerful than Ever or Damen. She can see people's thoughts with less accuracy and can see dead souls. Ava was invited by Ever's aunt Sabine to a Halloween party where she saw Riley. She tried to convince her to cross to the other side and turned to Ever when she failed. Ever noticed she had a purple aura.

Haven: Haven is one of Ever's only friends at her new school. She is a goth and crushes on Damen when he arrives. However, she sees that he is only interested by Ever and harbors a grudge against her. Damen saves her from an assassination attempt by Drina who had befriended her as a part of her plot to destroy Ever.

Miles: Miles is one of Ever's friends along with Haven's. He is a homosexual and has a crush on Damen like Haven, but Haven called dibs. Miles is always of deprived of something; whether it be love deprived, car deprived or anything else, he is a real drama queen. Miles loves acting and singing. He got the lead in the play " Hairspray " (which just so happens to be a girl). Miles is always glued to his phone texting his latest far away crush.
