FC Dinamo Sokhumi (Georgian: სკ სოხუმის დინამო) was a Georgian football club based in Sokhumi, Georgia and one of the most successful clubs of the country, currently is not playing anymore. Dynamo's traditional kit colours were blue and white. Their crest was of a blue letter "D", written in a traditional cursive style, on a white background with the name of their home town "Sokhumi" written in front of a football underneath.
History
Dinamo Sokhumi was founded in 1927 and took part in the Soviet football league system since 1936. The club long played in the Soviet Second League and brought up several well known Soviet football players. Among them were Nikita Simonyan, Valter Sanaya, Daur Akhvlediani, Avtandil Gogoberidze, Akhrik Tsveiba, Gennadi Bondaruk, Georgy Grammatikopulo, Temuri Ketsbaia and Ruslan Adzhindzhal who all started their professional career at Dinamo Sukuhm or spent significant amounts of time at the club.
In 1990, the new Georgian Umaglesi Liga was founded and was joined by most Georgian football clubs, including Dinamo Tbilisi and Torpedo Kutaisi. In contrast, Dinamo Sokhumi chose to remain in the Soviet League system. The club was relegated to the Soviet First League where it remained until 1991. In the mean time FC Tskhumi Sokhumi and FC ASMC Sokhumi were formed by former members of the club. After 1991, due to the War in Abkhazia, Georgia, nearly all Abkhaz football clubs temporarily ceded playing.
