Fairfax is a town in Franklin County, Vermont, United States. The population was 3,765 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 40.5 square miles (104.9 km²), of which, 40.2 square miles (104.1 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (0.77%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 3,765 people, 1,222 households, and 966 families residing in the town. The population density was 93.7 people per square mile (36.2/km²). There were 1,249 housing units at an average density of 31.1/sq mi (12.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White. There were 1,222 households out of which 44.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.8% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% were non-families and 14.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.20.
