The tournament was founded by a group of [[Toronto Rock]] fans, and is named after the [[Mann Cup]]. The inaugural Fann Cup was played against fans of the [[Rochester Knighthawks]].
It all started after a pickup lacrosse game in Toronto … over a few pints, a group of Toronto Rock fans decided it would be a good idea to challenge the fans of the Rochester Knighthawks to a friendly game of lacrosse. In a few short weeks, the inaugural FANN Cup was played.

The FANN Cup was named after the MANN Cup, which is awarded to the top Canadian Senior team every summer. September 2009 marked the MANN Cup's 100th year!
