The Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS) is is a postgraduate degree awarded by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan upon completing specialized training in chosen area of specialization and passing the examination in that specific specialty.
Entrance exam
Any doctor wishing to achieve fellowship (FCPS) must first pass FCPS - I (Part 1). This exam is MCQ based exam and can be done in the chosen specialty. There are about 169 specialties and sub-specialties in which FCPS can be done.
Duration of training
After passing FCPS - I training starts. It has two parts: initial two years training in chosen major subjects which are General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics or General Surgery. An Intermediate Module Exam is given after that. The remaining training can be continued in any of 169 specialties for further 2–3 years. After full 5 years of training and completing few compulsory requirements the candidate is eligible for exit exam FCPS -II. After passing this exam the candidate is awarded FCPS degree.
National recognition
FCPS is regarded as the highest degree achieved by the doctors in any specialty in Pakistan.
International recognition
To date following degrees are eligible for registration with General Medical Council without any other exam:[1]
- Pediatric Medicine
- Anesthesia
Furthermore GCC countries recognize this degree for registration as specialist, and in Saudi Arabia, as a consultant in any specialty[2][3]
Awards
College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan was awarded "Best postgraduate institution of the world" in 2013 by Socrates Committee Of Europe Business Assembly[4][5] .
