Fifth Cycle is a role-playing game published by Shield Games in 1990.

Description

Fifth Cycle is a fantasy game, a fairly simple skill-based system.[1] Player characters choose professions, each of which has a group of skills associated with it; the player assigns starting points to the skills as desired.[1] The player characters are the usual fantasy races, with the addition of a winged, flying race.[1] Magic is a spell-point system, and quite a few spells are described.[1] The background of the world of Dolphinis is briefly covered.[1]

Publication history

Fifth Cycle was designed by Robert Bartels and published by Shield Games in 1990 as a 198-page book.[1]

Reception

Fifth Cycle is one of a dozen role-playing games termed by Ron Edwards in 2002 as "fantasy heartbreakers" - fantasy RPG games that were designed by people who seemed to know nothing about the advancement of game design since the original productions of Dungeons & Dragons.[2]
