Summary

Description
English: Royal Air Force chinook helicopters based at RAF Odiham conducting routine flying training in the Mountain Flying Training Area (MFTA) located in North Wales. The terrain and environment are used to simulate what the Chinook Force is subjected to whilst on overseas Operations

The Chinook is an extremely capable and highly versatile helicopter that can operate from land and sea bases into a range of diverse environments from the Artic to the jungle or desert. The aircraft can be armed and is fitted with a range of self-defence equipment allowing it to operate across the battlespace.

Chinooks are primarily used for troop transport, resupply and casevac. With its triple-hook external load system, internal cargo winch, roller conveyor and huge power, the aircraft can lift a wide variety of complex underslung or internal freight.
