Statue of Myrna Loy in front of Venice High School (Los Angeles), taken April 5, 2014. The licensing is complicated, since this is a photo of a statue which is itself a replica of a statue that was made in 1921. The original statue is out of copyright since it was made before 1923. The replica is therefore a derivative work of a public domain work so that copyright doesn't attach to it. I took the photo, which is therefore a derivative work of the replica to which I hold the copyright. I am releasing the image into the public domain. That's my theory about that. If this doesn't seem sufficient I will write a fair use rationale for use of this image only on the Venice High School wikipedia article. |
