Chemnitz, Versteinerte Bäume Zentralbild Gahlbeck 12.11.1964 Eine Sehenswürdigkeit in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) ist der "Steinerne Wald". Es handelt sich dabei um verkieselte Bäume aus vulkanischer Asche, auch Tuff oder Porphyrtuff genannt, aus der Zeit des Perm im Rotliegenden. Diese steinernen Bäume sind etwa 291 Millionen Jahre alt und waren im Zentrum von Karl-Marx-Stadt aufgestellt. Seit 2004 sind diese im Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz im DAStietz ausgestellt.
