Isabelle Faust & Alexander Melnikov - Beethoven Integrale Kamermuziek #1 Nederlands: We kunnen het ons niet voorstellen, maar rond de eeuwwisseling bestempelde de Duitse pers de muziek van Beethoven, én in het bijzonder de Sonates voor klavier en viool, opus 12, in de kranten als overdadig, vergezocht, gecompliceerd en zelfs tegennatuurlijk. Vernieuwers botsen altijd op reactionaire kritieken en bij Beethoven was dat niet anders. Desalniettemin blinken deze vroege sonates net uit in uitgekiende thema’s, kleurrijke schakeringen en viriel samenspel. De bekende ‘Kreutzer-Sonate’ benadrukt Beethovens kunde om origineel, speels, maar zeker niet gratuit te excelleren. In het ‘Andante con variazioni’ tovert hij een eenvoudig motiefje moeiteloos om van lichtvoetig en romantisch, naar virtuoze passages met vingervlugge versieringen. En wie kan dit beter illustreren dan Beethovenspecialisten en ‘compagnons de route’ Alexander Melnikov en Isabelle Faust? Français : Difficile de se l'imaginer, mais à une époque la presse allemande critiquait la musique de Beethoven, et plus particulièrement ses Sonates pour clavier et violon, opus 12. La critique leur reprochait d'être ampoulées, trop recherchées, voire contre nature. Les novateurs se heurtent toujours aux jugements réactionnaires ; ce fut donc également le cas pour Beethoven. Pourtant, ces sonates de ses débuts se distinguent par des thématiques bien conçues, des nuances riches en couleurs et un jeu d'ensemble viril. La célèbre « Kreutzer-Sonate » fait bien ressortir l'excellence de Beethoven, originale, légère, mais jamais gratuite. Dans l'« Andante con variazioni », il transforme un petit motif simple et romantique, tout en légèreté, en passages virtuoses aux ornements hyperrapides. Qui pourrait mieux illustrer ce talent que les compagnons de route Alexander Melnikov et Isabelle Faust, éminents spécialistes de Beethoven ? English: It is hard to believe, but around the turn of the century the German newspapers labelled Beethoven’s music, in particular the Sonatas for piano and violin, opus 12, as excessive, far-fetched, complicated and even deviant. Innovators always come up against reactionary reviews and Beethoven was no exception. In spite of this, these early sonatas are especially striking with their sophisticated themes, rich variety and virile interplay. The well-known ‘Kreutzer Sonata’ emphasises Beethoven’s skill at excelling in an original, playful but certainly not gratuitous way. In the ‘Andante con variazioni’ he effortlessly conjures up a simple motif in order to move from light-footed and romantic to virtuoso passages with dextrous ornamentation. And who better to illustrate this than Beethoven specialists and ‘compagnons de route’ Alexander Melnikov and Isabelle Faust? |
