English: To coincide with President Nelson Mandela's visit to London in July 1997, I wrote to him c/o the South African High Commission on the subjects of the Lockerbie bombing and my dismissal from HM Diplomatic Service. The Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President in Cape Town replied on 22 August 1997 as follows:
I acknowledge with thanks receipt of the letter dated 9 July 1997 which you addressed to the President. The matter will be brought to his attention as soon as possible.
