English: Order of St John of Jerusalem Knight of Grace neck badge Decoration awarded to 15-10 Col. William J Will, NZ Medical Corps, WW1 neck badge in original box eight-pointed Maltese Cross in silver and white enamel with lions and unicorns between points, ribbon- plain black watered silk medal box- black leatherette exterior, black velvet and satin lining. Also in box are following Order of St John Knight of Grace rosette (with button-hole fitting) x an ornate miniature medal brooch (possibly for Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers Decoration). |

Notes | Order of St John of Jerusalem Knight of Grace neck badge Col. William Johnston Will, NZ Medical Corps William Johnston Will was born in East Taieri, Otago, 30.11.1858, son of Rev. W. Will; educated East Taieri Public School, University of Otago, Edinburgh University; graduated from Edinburgh University in 1884 and entered practise in Green Island District Military service- joined East Taieri Rifle Volunteers in 1878 and continued involvement with NZ Volunteer Forces in role as surgeon through to WW1; in 1898 became surgeon-major on staff 1st Battalion Otago Rifle Volunteers; in WW1 served with main body as Assistant Director of Medical Services until invalided out in September 1918; also had a long association with the St John's Ambulance Association; was chairman of the Dunedin Centre of St John's Ambulance; received St John's Ambulance Medal for Distinguished Service in Ambulance work; and in 1915 was made aKnight of Grace of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in 1915. (ref- Who's Who 1908 and 1925) At the time of receiving this order Colonel Will V.D., A.D.M.S. was in charge of the medical branch of the New Zealand-Australian Division of the Australasian Expeditionary Forces.
