Title
Medieval body sherd of an unglazed Pennine (or Northern) gritty ware
Description
English: Medieval body sherd of an unglazed Pennine (or Northern) gritty ware. The heavily abraded sherd has a gritty buff fabric with a reduced light green/grey core. The fabric is quite soft & easily scrathed with a finger nail. All the gritty quartz & micaceous inclusions are less than 0.5mm, mostly 0.25mm. The voids are of similar dimensions. The frequent inclusions and voids are both evenly sorted. One surface still retains signs of burning. Dates to between c1000 and c1400 AD, probably between c1080 and c1270.
The length is 19mm, width 13mm, thickness 5mm, and the weight is 1.8g.
