Summary

Description
English: Three forms of ecological post-zygotic isolation.
  1. Ecologically-independent: two species (A and B) form a viable hybrid who is able to mate; however, is unable to produce offspring due to a genetic incompatibility.
  2. Ecologically-dependent: hybrid offspring is inviable in that it is unable to survive long enough to mate and produce offspring. This is due to the hybrid having low fitness and requiring a fitness peak intermediate (that does not exist) to the parental fitness peaks.
  3. Selection against hybrids: the hybrids do not recognize each other as mates and do not produce offspring.
Note the fitness landscape and its correlation to each parental species pair.
