The Look. Copyright holder: unknown (possibly Ray Stevenson). |
Article | |
Portion used |
The entire photo is used to show all four members of the band and their clothing, per the article's discussion of the significance of their image. |
Low resolution? |
The image has been reproduced at low resolution and could not be used in such a way as to reduce the copyright owner's commercial interests in the image. |
Purpose of use |
The image is used to illustrate the band's original lineup at a formative point in their career and particularly to illustrate the look of John Lydon crucial to his selection as a member, as discussed in the accompanying text. |
Replaceable? |
As an image of the band very early in its career, there is no free equivalent available or possible as a replacement. |
Other information |
Research strongly suggests, though has not conclusively established, that the photographer is Ray Stevenson. The Look misdates this photo as September 1975 and misidentifies it as from the band's first photo session. For the pictures from the band's actual first photo session--which occurred in January or February 1976 and were taken by Peter Christopherson--see Savage, Jon, England's Dreaming (St. Martins Press, 1993), color portfolio between pages 282 and 283. For information on early Pistols' photo sessions, see Savage, England's Dreaming, p. 151. |
