Summary

Description

Sandstones in the Mississippian of Ohio, USA.

This is a creek cut near an old sandstone quarry in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The rocks are part of the Cuyahoga Formation (Lower Mississippian) and have been interpreted as the Buena Vista Member (see Willis, 1996).

The exposed sections are dominated by quartzose sandstones, but thin intervals of mudshale and siltstone are also present. Fossils are scarce - I only observed one slab with convex hyporelief vermiform trace fossils. Willis (1996) found seven ichnogenera, plus body fossils of productid brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoids, and blastoids.

Stratigraphy: Buena Vista Member, lower Cuyahoga Formation, Kinderhookian Stage, lower Lower Mississippian

Locality: Pine Quarry Park, Reynoldsburg, eastern Franklin County, central Ohio, USA (vicinity of 39° 57' 46.64" North latitude, 82° 47' 12.90" West longitude)
