Summary[edit]

Figures from the Star Wars Miniatures game, posed on top of a game board for the same game.

I, User:Alan De Smet took this photograph. I dual license it under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 and Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licenses. (That is, someone reusing the image is free to reuse it under either license, as they wish.)

The components portrayed are protected by copyright (probably by Wizards of the Coast and Lucasfilm, but I don't know). Fair use of the image can be made because: 1. They are not a reasonable replacement for the actual miniature figures, so there can be no realistic impact on the sales of the figures. 2. They are for illustrative use in the Star Wars Miniatures article. It is not possible to portray the game's components using free replacements of the game components.

Description

Figures from the Star Wars Miniatures game, posed on top of a game board for the same game.

Source

I, User:Alan De Smet, took this photograph.

Portion used

Photograph of a 3D object, which could not replace the original object and does not interfere or compete with the copyright holder's ability to derive financial gain.

Low resolution?

The image is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality, without being unnecessarily high resolution.

Non-free media rationale for Star Wars Miniatures
Article

Star Wars Miniatures

Purpose of use

The image is used for visual identification and illustration of a subject of public interest. The significance of the photograph of the toys is to illustrate the visual appearance and style of the toys in the info box of the article containing critical commentary about the toys, in a way that words alone could not convey.

Replaceable?

Because the design of the toys is protected by copyright, there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any equivalent alternatives would also be derivative works. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
