They cover a space of threehundred and fifty feet and have low ceilings, but are wellventilated, although without windows or other openings in thelong stretch of walls. Light is provided by gas jets hangingfrom the inner roof at intervals of ten feet. They contain an alarming quantity of casks and bottles, withwines from all countries and hemispheres, some of them ofincalculable value, and well worthy of being placed on thetables of the richest orourmet of the ao-e. There are mountainsof bottled Steinberger Cabinet, the original price of whichwas forty marks a bottle, and which could not be duplicatednowadays if the cellars of all the connoisseurs in Europewere ransacked.
