Nederlands: Paulus Potter was de eerste schilder die Hollands vee de hoofdrol gaf in zijn werk. In dit schilderij zijn dat vier koeien. Zij steken scherp af tegen de donkere wolkenlucht. Hun zware lijven werpen donkere slagschaduwen. De pezige beesten zijn ook zo indrukwekkend doordat Potter een laag gezichtspunt koos.
