Maybe we should add feet to the side in addition to meters

Also - I would recommend two spelling changes: Varsaw to Warsaw World Trade "Centre" to World Trade "Center" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.26.64.77 (talk) 01:29, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of World Trade Center could be offensive.

[edit]

The World Trade Center was destroyed on September 11, 2001. Since it was built it was named the World Trade Center, not Centre. This is not out of disrespect for the British spelling of the word, but as these buildings are an American icon, and represent the most tragic event that occurred in American History, I think the American and original spelling of the buildings sould be used here and they sould be refered to as the World Trade Center

See: American and British English spelling differences

Changes

[edit]

May I suggest a few changes to the diagram (as I do not have the appropriate software to edit SVG images).

  • As said above, World Trade Centre be renamed to World Trade Center (American English spelling)
  • Empire State be renamed to Empire State Building as this is its full name (see other diagrams)
  • Varsaw Radio Mast be renamed to Warsaw Radio Mast (Varsaw is not the Polish name, and English is more appropriate here anyway)
  • Burj Dubai be recoloured to black as it has been completed, as of today

Thanks, timsdad (talk) 01:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changes

[edit]

I agree with the above statement (eg. World Trade Centre to World Trade Center, Varsaw to Warsaw and Empire State to Empire State building) Also the name of the Burj Dubai needs to be changed to its current name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Perryparkhistory (talkcontribs) 18:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Willis Tower

[edit]

Why isn't the Willis Tower on this chart? It's taller than most of the other buildings featured. -Eaglescout1984 19:10, 4 January 2010 (GMT) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eaglescout1984 (talkcontribs)

This diagram's a comparison of some notable structures against Burj Khalifa, not of the tallest buildings in the world. --timsdad (talk) 22:48, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But who determines which notable structures should be included? Most news sources (even those outside of the United States) I've read mention Taipei 101 and Sears-Willis Tower in comparison to the Burj Khalifa. If that is the case, then both such skyscrapers should be included. Furthermore, the Burj Khalifa was designed by SOM (a la Adrian Smith), the same firm that engineered the Sears-Willis Tower. Even the Burj Khalifa article itself mentions the "similarity" in design with the Sears-Willis Tower. Based on all of these factors, this should be sufficient impetus for inclusion of the Sears-Willis Tower. --RKrause (talk) 02:22, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to do something about this now and will update the image soon. Unfortunately, to keep the image a reasonable size, I will remove the Pyramid and the Eiffel Tower. Astronaut (talk) 02:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
RKrause makes valid points, and I do agree that the Willis Tower is a very good comparison for it's held many records in the past itself. I apologise if my above comment suggested it wasn't notable, I was just saying that the fact it is taller than some of the others in the diagram is irrelevant. And thanks Astronaut for your efforts. --timsdad (talk) 02:40, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Pyramid is nice for comparison because I've read several news articles that bring up the historic significance of the Great Pyramids with respect to mankind's accomplishments in constructing ever taller structures. I would either remove just the Eiffel Tower or the World Trade Center (I would choose the latter since it gives a more balanced view of all different types structures, but I'll leave that decision up to you; I don't want to be responsible ;) --RKrause (talk) 03:01, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is File:Skyscrapercompare.svg which contains the Willis towers model.. You can copy that...--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 13:36, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I would prefer that image not be used as it has a few mistakes (see its talk page on the Commons). --timsdad (talk) 13:51, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, a new, differently named version has been uploaded which includes the Willis Tower. --timsdad (talk) 13:54, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
