"Vietnam Era Draft"

[edit]

SFAIK, the draft was continuously in effect from sometime at the beginning of WW2 until it was suspended. Everyone of draft age had to carry the card and it wasn't specific to the Vietnam Era, but yeah the time at which I registered was the latter part of that Era. I "came out" at 17 a year before the registration so selection was a non-issue for me. 72.228.150.44 (talk) 00:07, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looking back at the statii, I would have been 4F though I don't remember if the card indicated as much, I think not. Also SFAICT, anyone should have been able to claim 1-A-O, 1W, etc. if they were bright and/or principled enough to do so. Perhaps that's why the draft was eliminated, it was an unnecessary stressor on the peoples voluntary participation in their oppression. Until the 1960s males of all classes were expected to serve so what was once a common social obligation came to be something else. 72.228.150.44 (talk) 10:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
