Question

Why is Canada marked in red? There are no confirmed deaths.

Because red means confirmed cases. Confirmed deaths are marked black.

Update

Canada now has their first confirmed death in Alberta.

Question

I don't have the authority of this image anymore beacause i am a new user (26 April), ironically because i am the author. Wikipedia asked me to remove Alaska from the picture but someone else added it again.

please remove alaska and other region like island around spain etc.

Answer

Question

Maybe we should take a map that has the different states/provinces of the US, Canada an Mexico? Kloth (talk) 17:24, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Answer

No we better not do that because this is an global outbreak, but i've also made a map about the USA. check my user page for that map or the article about the outbreak in the USA cause i've added the map there allstrak

Clause

If you're going to include Alaska, then you must include French Guyana. The two are functionally identical within their countries. --Golbez (talk) 18:40, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

And remove the north of Ireland as well.. Applytheneed1 (talk) 20:49, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Question

Is it possible to generate a larger, more detailed map? –Juliancolton | Talk 21:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Answer

Yes, but there is no need to because it must be a thumb in the main N1H1 outbreak article. allstrak
Well, true, but it would be more useful at full resolution. –Juliancolton | Talk 23:47, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Question

Can somebody who is very good with inkscape or so, add all the states of america in the map in stead of this one big blob? That will make much more clear.

Australia should be removed for now, suspected cases have tested negative. [2] Wine Guy Talk 00:29, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Some people were asking that Alaska, etc. be removed. I made a version like that, but I don't have the Commons privileges to overwrite. --π! 02:24, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

If you're going to include Alaska, then include French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Reunion. They're part of France. --Golbez (talk) 18:27, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

UK still not red

Since there are 2 confirmed cases, the UK should be red (or at least Scotland)--Simonr9999 (talk) 18:09, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't really make sense for Northern Ireland to be red, since it's a separate land mass from Scotland where the two confirmed cases are. IMHO, only Scotland should be red. Adw2000 (talk) 12:49, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Peru rejects swine flu in five cases after analysis

In this moment there are not suspects of swine flu in Peru, and the suspect peruvian woman came from Cancun, Mexico was not swine flu. Update the map.

Additional comment: I added this info to the page, and map needs fixed.

The following countries need to be updated

Yellow:

Red:

Black

  • United States[11] (possible but unconfirmed, keep an eye on it)

This link has English translations for all of those sources. I'd do it myself but I have no idea how to edit SVG files. Sbw01f (talk) 18:16, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Iceland: the two suspected cases turned out to be false alarms, so the country does not need to be yellow. --Cessator (talk) 21:10, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Change Mexico Back to Black

The color of the red is too close to the others and all the other maps have black as the death symbol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Knowledgekid87 (talkcontribs) 18:59, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I second this, it is going to get very confusing especially if it comes to turning some of Europe red, and some dark red. We need vivid colours, not the pastels on use here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rob.derosa (talkcontribs) 19:44, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Again change mexico back to black, it makes it more confusing. Knowledgekid87 22:48, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Russia

Someone took Russia off, could someone restore it as red since the patient has been confirmed as sick with H1N1 flu. 68.40.189.45 (talk) 23:13, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Is this page being monitored actively?

If so I'd like to add an edit notice at Talk:2009 swine flu outbreak to post here for map corrections. We're getting a lot on the talk page there and I'm not if sure editors there are interested in editing this image. Calliopejen1 (talk) 23:16, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I dont think so it looks like some edit chaos is at work here Knowledgekid87 22:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Austria

Austria has one confirmed case... Can someone fill it in red —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.24.250.130 (talk) 12:13, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

colours

suggest:

  • Blue - disproven cases
  • Yellow - suspected cases
  • Orange - confirmed cases
  • Pink - suspected cases + suspected deaths
  • Dark Red - confirmed cases + suspected deaths
  • Violet - deaths with confirmed infection

76.66.202.139 (talk) 12:21, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

    • Seems like too many colors. I remarked on this below. I think that we should keep the three color scheme but change the black to something else. What about a blue, green, violet scheme? This is much less threatening. Hdstubbs (talk) 14:39, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Romania

Colors of countries

Using the black color for countries in which deaths were detected is a bit "darkening" and overly alarming to my taste. Soon the whole world will be "blacked out", leaving white borders in between.

If it was the Spanish flu, wouldn't you say it would be appropriate? 76.66.202.139 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 12:10, 30 April 2009 (UTC).
Maybe, but this isn't the Spanish Flu. This isn't something that happened in 1918. This is happening today. And the connotation of black is not warranted by one death in the United States and less than two hundred in Mexico. Even if this was the article for Spanish Flu I would recommend changing the colors. Black is too melodramatic and is not in the spirit of a balanced collaborative communication about a particular issue. Hdstubbs (talk) 12:33, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
