Chaldean Syrian Church[edit]

According to the article Chaldean Syrian Church, the church split from the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, not the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. Which is correct?--Cúchullain t/c 18:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article tries to say that the dissident faction in the syro-malabar catholic church tried to get ordainment for someone among them from the syriac orthodox bishops in the neighborhood.

The person who finally got ordained(by the assyrianor nestorian bishops) - Fr. Anthony was a former catholic just like the rest. See discussion the former chart.

Where is that discussion? The article is not at all clear, and has no sources on the issue. It doesn't mention the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church; it only says that in the 17th century some conservatives sought leadership from the Syrian Orthodox Church. This would seem to be a reference to the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church. The implication is that in 1812, a Jacobite Syrian group was seeking a new bishop but didn't receive one from its patriarch in the Syrian Orthodox Church, and instead got one from the Assyrian Church of the East.--Cúchullain t/c 20:44, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes the article mentioned by user Cuchullain seems to be misleading as it doesnt mention this important fact that the Assyrian Church in Kerala was formed from a split in the Syro-Malabar Catholic church and makes it seem as a split in the Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church. The 19th century split in the Syro-Malabar Church was known as the Melusian schism. The Syro-malabar people who resented latinization tried to bring the Chaldean Catholic uniate bishops from Iraq to restore their semitic styles and east syrian liturgy. But Rome excommunicated the chaldean catholic bishops who arrived- Rockus and Melus. These dissident catholics later organised themselves under the older nestorian church of Iraq(Assyrian church of east) and got bishops ordained. The schism is named after the excommunicated chaldean catholic bishop- Melus, as the "Melusian schism". You can find mention of this schism in the following Syro-Malabar Catholic website(see paragraph 7): http://www.syromalabarccc.org/index_files/SyroMalabarHistoryPg1.htm
The article "Chaldean Syrian church" mentioned by cuchullian needs to be edited to stop the confusion.
