The flame-throated bulbul (Pycnonotus gularis) is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is found in southwestern India.
Taxonomy and systematics
Until 2008, the flame-throated bulbul was considered as conspecific with the black-capped, black-crested, ruby-throated bulbul and Bornean bulbuls. Some authorities have considered the flame-throated bulbul to be a subspecies of the black-capped bulbul.[2]
Description
The flame-throated bulbul is virtually crestless, has an orange-red throat and whitish eyes.
Distribution and habitat
The flame-throated bulbul is a bird of forest and dense scrub. It builds its nest in a bush; two to four eggs is a typical clutch.
Behaviour and ecology
The flame-throated bulbul often keeps in small flocks and favours lantana berries. It inhabits evergreen forests, lantana thickets, and bushes along rivers. The flame-throated bulbul feeds on fruit and insects.
